Davies Turner expands services between Romania and the UK

Davies Turner is gearing up to help shippers looking to capitalise on Romania's emergence as a strong regional economy ahead of its accession to membership of the European Union in 2007. Already offering trailer services for full and part loads on demand, the company is now adding scheduled direct services for groupage consignments, with guaranteed departures every Friday in both directions.

Operated by modern, double manned trucks fitted with the GPS technology, the service enables Davies Turner to offer some of the fastest and most cost-effective transit times to and from this market.

Davies Turner is offering the service in partnership with Cargolog Weiss, a subsidiary of Gebrüder Weiss (its long-standing partner in Austria). Cargolog Weiss has its own consolidation facilities in Romania, and also offers a national collection and distribution service throughout the country. The Cargolog Weiss freight hubs in Romania are Customs bonded, allowing for full import / export clearance services to be provided.

In Romania, Davies Turner will maintain its long-standing relationship with local haulage company, Ionastrans, which will provide most of the hanging garment and general freight trailers for the improved service.

“The UK is one of Romania's most important trading partners, and we believe this share will increase during the build-up to EU accession around 2007,” said Philip Stephenson, joint managing director of Davies Turner. “In particular, we anticipate that Romania's textile, footwear and furniture industries will grow significantly. These sectors have long been the bedrock for our full & part load services in this trade, and our development of twice-weekly groupage departures every Friday and Tuesday is in response to increased demand.”

In addition to its trailer services with Romania, Davies Turner works with Gebrüder Weiss Group companies in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The company also offers a complete range of full load and groupage services between the UK and the rest of Central and Eastern Europe, which connect with Davies Turner's network of overseas partners around the world. Through its subsidiary, Davies Turner Air Cargo, the company provides airfreight services between Britain and Romania.
